Connect to underground public power points instead of running a diesel generator
For a short outdoor shoot, the crew plugs lighting and camera equipment into the municipality's underground power pillars on the square, tied into the local renewable-energy grid, instead of hiring and running a diesel generator.
This works in city centres that already have this kind of civic power infrastructure installed for markets and public events, and suits a short reportage or live-broadcast shoot rather than a multi-day production. The example given is a local broadcaster covering a public event on a city square in Utrecht.
The source gives a direct cost comparison for two separate shoots: 20 kWh drawn from the municipal supply at 0.70 euro per kWh cost about 14 euro, against an estimated 300 to 400 euro for a diesel generator for the same day, a saving of roughly 96.5%; a second shoot using 52 kWh came to 36.40 euro, a 90.9% saving. The source states the environmental benefit is significant without giving a separate CO2 figure.
